According to the National Cancer Institute website, “Asbestos is the name given to a group of minerals that occur naturally in the environment as bundles of fibers and can be separated into thin, durable threads. These fibers are resistant to heat, fire, and chemicals and do not conduct electricity. For these reasons, asbestos has been widely used in many industries." Because of this, many workers may have been exposed to asbestos at some point on the job.

Safety Bulletin - Miller Back Biter Lanyards
[7/20/2009]
Employee was utilizing a Miller Back Biter double lanyard attached to his harness and inspected this fall protection prior to use. While maintaing 100 percent tie-off, employee noticed something fall out ot the corner of his eye. Employee look down and saw the locking keeper of one of the snap hooks had fallen to the ground. At the time of the failure, employee had the lanyard looped around an anchor point and tied back into itself. Employee immediately decended to grade level and found the locking keeper and the rivet that held the keeper in place. The attachment outlines details of this safety bulletin.

For over 140 years, the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' International Association (OPCMIA) has represented and trained plasterers and cement masons for the purpose of protecting and promoting the quality of our industry and the livelihood of our members.

Members of Local 797can be found working on major projects throughout Nevada. OPCMIA Local 797 members have worked on projects of all kinds from highways and bridges to the famous hotel/casino towers along the strip..
